Personality:

Resilient/Resourceful: (+)

—Long as Akutagawa could remember, he’s been fighting to stay alive since the days he lived in poverty. He had his ability earlier in life, used it to protect himself and his pack (orphaned/abandoned children living in the slums). The world was dangerous and ready to take your life at a moment notice, whether it be from a human or elements of nature. Akutagawa had endured harsh realities, was kicked, stabbed, and near the brink of starvation and death. He knew what plants were edible to eat or remediate, knew a little bit of agriculture, had keen senses of dangers. In canon, him and his fellow kin saved up money for the winter and planted potatoes to harvest later on. When he was adopted to the Armed Detective Agency, he helped Kenji with farming.

Another important factor while living poverty life, Akutagawa had to gain some insight of his life surrounding, aware of other people around the slums, what to avoid, keen was survival. Akutagawa had some good awareness, like when he realized the diamond one of his friends found could prove dangerous, he warned his fellow pack it was time to move out. It was important to know which enemies to be weary of and hide your tracks. When he joined the ADA, Akutagawa used the knowledge growing up in the slums to his advantage. He knew who to provoke for outside information.

There there is Rashomon, his ability. Akutagawa is creative using it not only for combats, he had used it as a hammock for Rampo and the kids to get them to sleep. He’s also used it to plant rice in the field.

Finally, there was a time he was babysitting his fellow adopted siblings. He taught one child a harsh lesson of having a life with a gun. He also attended parent/teacher classes, helping his fellow siblings gain confident.

—Akutagawa was described as a Beast since growing up. Without a second thought and depending on the situation, he will attack a person without warning. In the slums, he was known as the ‘silent rapid dog’. Akutagawa had no emotions at the time, acted only by instinct and slashed his enemies easily. Earlier in life, Akutagawa was his pact guardian in a way. Anytime his friends were held at gun or knife point, he would sever a limb from the enemy, to free his friend. To him, it was a quick solution. Any further delayed may had endangered his friend. This later became a habit as he joined the ADA later on, expressing to Kunikida how he rather ‘cut his enemies’ than do paperwork.

The moment he gained emotions though, his anger was the first to awaken. His pack suddenly murdered in the slums, with only his sister and himself able to escape. Akutagawa wanted avenge his comrades to the point he left his sister behind in this tunnel vision. He allows his anger to take over, becomes violent, aim to cut every enemy down until they were dead, even if it meant he’d end his life.

Be corruption, vengeance, or both, Akutagawa will go in his rage state with only the prize awaiting at the end. Fortunately, close comrades, like the ADA, had reached out to him to quell his silent anger, like grounding him with a simple touch on the back. Sometimes it successful, other times it’s not.

It wasn’t successful when he found out the Port Mafia had his sister, and marched to their HQ without much of a plan. He didn’t hesitate and killed a swarm of them. Even took a young mafia girl as hostage. Atsushi stated ‘only an evil person can do that’ to Akutagawa.

Obsession: (-)

— Akutagawa’s obsession comes from violence and the people he hold close. Akutagawa doesn’t see the bigger picture sometimes, mostly a tunnel vision, the only path where his target is. The moment his sister was ‘kidnapped’, Akutagawa vowed to find the person responsible and murder them first. While he argues he values his sister, his enemies were his prime goals. Gin, his sister, also noted to her brother, ‘the reason I didn’t come back is because of you, my presence will only make you worst nii-san’. Which is true, take anyone dear from Akutagawa, you set off a bomb. This also happened back when he was a child when his friends were murdered. He wanted no more than revenge, leaving his sister behind. This also lead his obsession to gain strength. Akutagawa would attack his teacher, Odasaku, randomly to hone both mind and ability.

When Akutagawa was hired to the ADA, Akutagawa expressed how much he ‘wants to cut’ more than focus on the office work. When he was taking the initiative test to join the agency, Akutagawa focused more on the enemy with the bomb than the hostages.

Akutagawa’s obsessions are like his life goals, to have some purpose in life, but not all healthy. The moment his sister denied him, Akutagawa wasn’t sure what else to cling to. To him, his sister meant some meaning.

Suicidal: (-) cw for topic and self harm

—Akutagawa’s life upbringing was rough. The idea of death had crossed his mind multiple times because it was an easy way out. The only reason he hadn’t done because he didn’t like the idea of his life being taken easily, be enemy or himself. Akutagawa had come close to dying, swayed to either follow or resist the temptation.

One example, when Akutagawa’s friends were murdered. He vowed vengeance to the point where he was willing to go on a suicide attack, leaving his sister behind. The only reason he survived the confrontation was because of Dazai, threatening to kidnap his sister. During the last confrontation with Atsushi, the White Tiger, Akutagawa was ready to give up life when he felt he had nothing else to live for.

Powers and Abilities: The short version: Rashomon, a clothing shaping ability, can shape the clothes on his back to whatever he likes whether it be blades, flowers, or a beast head. Rashomon can distort a space and time, cutting the air and rippling it like water, to deflect incoming projectiles and any other attacks, think of it like a temporary force field. He can either attack or defend, he can’t do both at the same time.
